Davis Prantley founded Prantley Records in 1990. His nephews, then ages 15-18 had begun singing together as Highlight. Davis served as their manager. No record company wanted to take a chance on the seven teenagers. Davis got them some studio time. He produced an album for the young men. He sold the albums at every performance of Highlight. In 1992, Davis' friend Kevin Tu'Shane suggested that Davis start his own record label. Davis was hesitant at first, but after two months and an investment from Kevin, Davis put all of his savings into Prantley Records. Highlight's album sold well on the label. In 1993, Davis signed his daughter, Deshay, to Prantley Records. She released her first album in early 1994. Her album was a smash hit. Prantley Records could not meet the sales demand for Deshay's album. Prantley Records teamed up with Geo Distribution so that they could produce and distribute Prantley Records' albums. In 1994, Honey Gill signed with Prantley Records. Charlotte Jones signed with Prantley in 1996. Prantley now boasts a roster of successful artists. Because Prantley is a small label, its artists receive personal attention from the record label. Davis Prantley executive produces each album released by Prantley. Prantley Records has its own core of musicians who are some of the best musician in the state of Maddocha. Prantley Records has a top-notch songwriting crew, lead by his son Davis, II and his nephew, Joshua Styles. |
